Cycling Shirts

Snap 2018 01 25 at 09.26.50Many amateur cyclists wonder why they should purchase an expensive cycling shirt and why they can’t make do with normal jerseys and t-shirts. This is a valid question because riding gear can be an added expense when you’ve already spent money on the bicycle, shoes, helmets, and braces. At eCycling Store, we have a collection of affordable cycling shirts and jerseys that’ll give you the right amount of protection without burning a hole in your pocket.

Types of Fabric

There are many different kinds of fabrics available in the market. You can choose one based on your needs, weather conditions during the ride, and budget. Every fabric has its pros and cons but all of them make adequate riding gear.

Polyester – Manufactured fabrics like polyester have great moisture wicking properties and are very breathable. They can also be treated with coatings to offer rain protection and sun protection. As they are man-made fabrics, they’re quite affordable and fit into nearly every budget. However, you need to choose good quality polyester because bad quality ones will soak up sweat and stick to your body.

Polyester Lycra Blend – This material is found in the best performance cycling shirts because they offer the best moisture wicking, sun protection, and temperature control properties. Riders are very comfortable when they wear this fabric and can enjoy the cycling experience without any distractions. These shirts and jerseys also come with different designs and prints.

Merino Wool – This is a natural product and has become very popular recently. They look classy and elegant and are very comfortable. The wool also has a number of thermal regulating properties that make these shirts ideal for a variety of weather and temperature conditions. Unfortunately, this fabric is also heavy and difficult to manufacture. That makes it quite expensive, so people prefer man-made fabrics to merino wool.

Cotton – Experienced cyclists and professionals will always tell you that a cotton cycling shirt isn’t a good choice for riding. Cotton tends to soak up sweat and clings to your body. However, many riders do prefer cotton, especially during the summer months. This is a matter of personal preference rather than the performance of the fabric itself.
